Elephant Christening Cake

This was a christening cake for two little baby twin girls, Hannah and Simone. Their Mother called me about a week before the christening from the UK, and explained she would be back in Melbourne (Australia) in a couple of days, and needed someone to make this cake that she had seen on the internet. So she sent me the picture, which was a cute pink gift box cake with a teddy bears head sticking out. Instead of the teddy, she wanted a little baby elephant, so she asked me to use ‘Elliot and Buttons’ as the design and make an elephant head poking out. This is the result! My first time doing an elephant head, I’m pretty pleased with the way it came out! I had quite a few disasters with this cake, I locked myself out of my house for starters! then I finally got in, I was in a hurry and the cake almost fell onto the ground, i caught it, but my fingers went into the sides… I managed to fix it all though luckily!
Hope you like it!

Can you use cake for the lid and just have a cake board under it? This cake is very cute by the way! I love the elephant!

Yeah, you probably could, but it might b a bit heavier than just the board and would take a bit to get it nice and smooth. Not a bad idea though as an alternative! Hope you liked the cake 🙂

why don't you use rice crispy treats for the cover? just an idea, I don't even know if that would work.

Thanks so much Sharon! I was pretty chuffed with the elephant being my first time doing her 🙂 I did another elephant but looking slightly different for a cake I just posted this morning, I liek this one better though, she's much cuter and cuddlier he he.

Thanks darlin! Yes I've given up on sourcing tall cake boxes! I have to use any (clean) big box I can swipe from someone/somewhere and use that to deliver. I don't like that the boxes don't look pretty, but when they see the cake, they forget about the ugly brown box anyway! he he.
    Thanks for the lovely comment!

This is adorable Danielle! And thank goodness Laura cleared up the issue with the ALUMINUM FOIL as I was starting to freak out a bit myself after reading Nivia's comments on the foil paper!

  • Jeani Dupuis says:

Oh Danielle, this is way too cute!!! Yes they make our supplies expensive. I would never have known you damaged the side.

I LOVE this cake Danielle! You did a wonderful job!! I was reading the comment that Nivia left and then replayed your video and I think she might have misunderstood when you were talking about wrapping the door stoppers? On your video I heard you say you used ALUMINUM FOIL. There's absolutely nothing wrong with using Aluminum foil. I think she thought you said Foil PAPER. I use aluminum for my cakes all the time girl! You're allright! Don't worry about poisoning your customers! LOL! Great work!
